Margie H. Strider, President

Margie is a native and resident of Asheboro, NC, where she attended and graduated from Asheboro High School.  She entered the accounting field at the age of 16, with her first job at a local variety store.

She is a graduate of Maison de Paris Beauty College and a licensed cosmetology.  She also has a double major in Business Administration and Accounting.

Margie joined the Central Chapter in 1985 and became a full member of North Carolina Society of Accountants in 1988.  She has served and chaired many committees with NCSA including being on the Board of Directors several times.  She has also held offices on the line of NCSA and is currently President 2014-2015.  Central Chapter is her local chapter where she has held all the positions there multiple times as chapter officers.  Margie joined National Society of Accountants in 1992 and has earned her accreditation as an Accredited Tax Advisor and Accredited Tax Preparer.  She has served with NSA as a co-chair under the leadership of Past President, Wanda Samek of NSA.  Margie is also a Registered Tax Return Preparer, passing the RTRP exam in 2012.  She is a member of the National Society of Tax Preparers and a Notary Public and has served on various community and church committees of Bethel Baptist Church in Asheboro, NC.

Margie has worked for corporations and been assistant Corporate Secretary.  She worked part time in her own practice until 1996, she started a full-time practice doing accounting, payroll and taxes for individuals, partnerships and businesses. She has one daughter, Brigette, married to Paul Welton and is “MeMaw” to Nicholas and Benjamin Welton, her pride and joy.



Ronald Powell, President-Elect

Ronald was born at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina while his father was serving in the United States Air Force.  He graduated from Yokota High School, Yokota Air Base, Japan in 1976 and went on to East Carolina University where he completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science in 1981.  In 1991, he completed his Masters Degree in Computer Resource Management from Webster University, St Louis, MO; suma cum laude.

He purchased his practice from his father in 1996 and is the President of Powell & Powell Accounting, Inc., Asheboro, NC.

Ronald joined North Carolina Society of Accountants (NCSA) in 1996 as a full member and joined the National Society of Accountants (NSA) in 1999.  Ronald is currently NCSA’s President-Elect and has served as Vice-President and Secretary.  He has served on the NCSA Board of Directors, Legislative Committee, Audit Committee, Education Committee, Nominating committee and Practitioner’s Forum Committee.  Currently he is the Continuing Professional Education Chairman.  Since joining NCSA, he has been an active member of Central Chapter and has been President, Vice-President and Secretary.

Ronald passed the US Treasury’s Special Enrollment Exam and has been Enrolled to Practice Before the Internal Revenue Service since 2011.  He joined the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the North Carolina Society of Enrolled Agents in 2012.

In addition to his accounting career, he completed 24 years of military service in December 2005 when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the 53rd Aerial Port Squadron, Pope Air Force Base, NC where he served as commander for six years.

Mr. Powell married the former Latefa G. Barnes of Denton on May 17, 1981 and they have two children, twins, Amanda and Robert.


Mary Fuller, Secretary

Mary was born and grew up in Durham, NC, graduating from Durham High School.  With her first job in the accounting department of a large shoe manufacturer in Nashville, TN, she knew this was her calling.  In her second job in the Ohio state director's office of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union in Columbus, Ohio, she maintained the day to day bookkeeping functions of the state treasurer of that union.  That solidified her fate in the bookkeeping and accounting profession.

Returning to Durham in 1971, she continued working the next twenty years in bookkeeping and payroll positions.  In 1992, she joined a local accounting firm where she was responsible for accounting and payroll functions for numerous clients as well as assisting the principle accountant in tax preparation.

In 2002, she purchased the accounting and payroll divisions of that firm, forming Apple Accounting & Tax, LLC, and, with her trusted assistant of twelve years, Felicia McDougald, she maintains that successful business today.  That same year, she joined both the National Society of Accountants and the North Carolina Society of Accountants as well as the local Raleigh chapter.  She has served terms as president and secretary of the local chapter and served two terms on the State Society's board of directors.  Mary completed the IRS requirements and became a Registered Tax Return Preparer in 2012.

In 1986 she married the "true" love of her life, Wayne Fuller, her staunchest supporter in all her endeavors, and, combined, they have five children and ten grandchildren. 

 


John McKinney, Treasurer

John McKinney was born in Morganton, NC in 1970. John attended and graduated McDowell High School. He studied at McDowell Technical Community College and later attended Western Piedmont Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science. In 1998 John began working part time installing and setting up accounting systems for small businesses. In 2000 John started a small company providing Dial-up internet access to the residents and businesses of McDowell County. John began working full time in his family’s public accounting practice in 2004 where he continues to work today.

In 2005 he joined both the National Society of Accountants and the North Carolina Society of Accountants. In 2006 he earned the designation of Accredited Tax Preparer. John is enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service and has been since 2007. John completed the requirements necessary and became a Registered Tax Return Preparer in 2012. John is active in the Western Chapter of the North Carolina Society of Accountants and has held various offices in the chapter. John has also served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Society of Accountants.


 

M. Louise Pistole, Immediate Past President

M Louise Pistole was born and raised in Charlotte where she still resides and maintains her business, Accounting Plus.

Louise attended Central Piedmont Community College and Kings College in Charlotte, NC. Upon completion, she went to work for a local CPA firm  and was primarily assigned to audits. Due to the extensive travel involved and having a young child at home, she left the firm and began her own practice in 1986.

She joined the North Carolina Society of Accountants in 1990 and has been active in the Charlotte Chapter since that time.  Her primary involvement at both the State and Chapter levels has always been with Membership, her true passion.  She has served three years as an NCSA Officer, several terms on the Board of Directors and on numerous committees.  Louise became an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service in 1996 and also, received her Accredited Tax Advisor credential in  1996. 

She is currently a member of the National Society of Accountants, the North Carolina Society of Accountants and the Charlotte Chapter, the National Association of Tax Professionals, the National Society of Enrolled Agents and the North Carolina Chapter.

Louise's civic commitment is with the Matthews Chamber of Commerce where she has served seven years on the Board of Directors.  She has also spent 30 years serving in the Outreach Ministry of her church. Of all the positions and memberships mentioned, Louise's most beloved honor is being 'Mimi' to her grandchildren, Jack and Katie.
